Taiwan detects 27 Chinese aircraft, 14 PLAN vessels near its territory

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence spotted 27 Chinese PLA aircraft, 14 PLAN vessels, and six official ships buzzing around its borders early Sunday morning. This activity happened up to 6 a.m. (UTC+8), and it shows the ongoing military pressure from China.

In a post on X, the ministry shared that 26 of those aircraft crossed the median line and flew into Taiwan’s northern, central, southwestern, and eastern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ). “We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly,” the MND stated, keeping everyone updated on these tense encounters.

Just the day before, on Saturday, Taiwan detected even more: 31 PLA aircraft, 13 PLAN vessels, and three official ships near its territory. These frequent incursions highlight the growing China-Taiwan tensions, a hotspot in global geopolitics.

For context, Taiwan runs its own government, economy, and military as the Republic of China (ROC). But China sees it as a breakaway province and pushes the “One China” policy, claiming Beijing as the only true capital. This feud dates back to 1949, after the Chinese Civil War, when ROC leaders retreated to Taiwan while communists under Mao Zedong seized mainland control.

Beijing keeps up the heat with military drills, diplomatic moves, and economic squeezes to force reunification. Still, Taiwan stands strong with massive public backing for its independence, even as it faces these constant threats.

The MND shares these updates regularly to stay transparent and boost national security awareness amid the China-Taiwan standoff.
