Indian women boxers made history at the 2025 World Boxing Championship in Liverpool, delivering their strongest-ever showing on the international stage. On Sunday, Minakshi Hooda and Jaismine Lamboria grabbed gold medals, Nupur snagged silver, and Pooja Rani secured bronze—pushing India’s tally to an impressive four medals.
Jaismine kicked off India’s gold rush with a solid 4:1 win over Poland’s Julia Szeremeta in the women’s 57kg final. Szeremeta, who won silver at the Paris Olympics, couldn’t keep up with Jaismine’s sharp moves. Not far behind, Minakshi Hooda dominated the women’s 48kg category, beating Kazakhstan’s Nazym Kyzaibay 4:1. Kyzaibay, a three-time world champion and Paris Olympics bronze medallist, faced a determined Minakshi who stayed in control from start to finish.
What makes this extra special? Both Jaismine and Minakshi stepped into their first-ever world championship finals and showed no nerves against these top opponents. They fought with confidence, proving India’s rising talent in women’s boxing.
Boxing Federation of India president Ajay Singh couldn’t hide his excitement. “Our women boxers took down some of the world’s best in Liverpool—this shows Indian boxing is climbing fast,” he said. He credited the federation’s athlete-first policies for the success and added, “These results prove we’re on the right track. We’re pushing more reforms to support our athletes, and these stars could be our next Olympic heroes.”
Nupur Bairagi came close to gold in the women’s 80+kg final but settled for silver after a tough 3:2 loss to Poland’s Agata Kaczmarska, a multiple European champion. Nupur pushed hard over three rounds, keeping the fight intense till the end.
Pooja Rani picked up bronze in the women’s 80kg semifinal, falling 4:1 to England’s Emily Asquith. This event marked the first World Championships under the new World Boxing organization, and India’s women truly shone, highlighting the growth of Indian women’s boxing on the global map.
