Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Daughter Ava Raine Faces Backlash Over Charlie Kirk Assassination Post

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s daughter, Ava Raine, is catching heat online after sharing a post that many see as insensitive following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The 24-year-old WWE wrestler, whose real name is Simone Johnson, reposted a message just hours after Kirk’s tragic death on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University.

Raine shared an Instagram story from comedian Gianmarco Soresi that said, “If you want people to have kind words when you pass, you should say kind things when you’re alive.” She didn’t name Kirk directly, but then doubled down on her X (formerly Twitter) account with her own words: “and i’ll stand behind this. be kind, now more than ever.” This came right after Kirk was shot and killed in front of thousands while speaking at the event.

WWE fans quickly fired back, flooding her post with angry comments. One user wrote, “Be kind or get assassinated?? I’m sure you’ve said something unkind I know your dad has what an idiotic statement.” Another demanded, “@WWE @TKOGrp does tko and wwe stand behind this?” Fans even called her a “Nepo baby” – short for nepotism baby – suggesting her family ties to The Rock might shield her from real consequences in the wrestling world. Some replied with a viral GIF of The Rock yelling “Shut up bitch” from one of his matches, turning the backlash into a meme storm.

This isn’t the first time insensitive comments about Kirk’s assassination have led to firings. Several people lost their jobs over similar posts. The Carolina Panthers let go of football communications coordinator Charlie Rock on Thursday for an “insensitive social media post” about the shooting. MSNBC political analyst Matthew Dowd got fired after suggesting on air that one of Kirk’s supporters might have accidentally killed him by firing a gun in celebration. The Joe Burrow Foundation removed Ohio judge Ted Berry from its board for his online remarks on Kirk’s death. And in New York, school cop Tanisha Blanche was pulled from her job at Somers Intermediate School after her comments were called out for “glorifying violence.”

Not everyone reacted with outrage, though. Many chose to honor Charlie Kirk’s legacy as the founder of Turning Point USA. The New York Yankees held a moment of silence before their game on Thursday. At the Jets game on Sunday, the videoboard showed photos of Kirk, his wife, and their kids. However, not all NFL teams joined in – the Bengals, Lions, Colts, Vikings, and Ravens skipped moments of silence that day. The league left it up to individual teams to decide on remembrances moving forward.

As for the shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson has been named the suspect. Officials say he acted alone and expect charges of aggravated murder, Utah’s most serious crime that could lead to the death penalty if prosecutors pursue it. The case is still unfolding, but it’s clear Kirk’s death has sparked a heated debate about kindness, politics, and social media fallout.
