Imagine embarking on a thrilling motorcycle adventure that blends India’s rich Buddhist heritage with the spirit of national unity and youth empowerment. That’s exactly what the Tri-Services Lord Buddha Circuit Motorcycle Expedition delivered, from August 23 to September 9, 2025. This 4,500-km journey across seven states didn’t just cover roads—it connected hearts, cultures, and generations, highlighting Lord Buddha’s timeless wisdom of peace and compassion.
At the helm were two inspiring leaders: Rahul Laxman Patil, a farmer’s son and the expedition’s convener, who dreamed up the idea to celebrate India’s cultural pride. He worked tirelessly with governments, schools, and communities to make it happen. Teaming up with him was Lt Col Dr. Vishal Chopra from the Army Medical Corps, the team’s leader and a biking pro with over 10,000 km under his belt. As the first medical officer to lead a Tri-Services bike expedition, Vishal embodied courage, care, and teamwork, showing how passion and duty can fuel big achievements.
Their partnership proved that anyone, no matter their background, can achieve extraordinary things with resilience and strong values. The ride symbolized unity in diversity—think Army, Navy, and Air Force riders hitting the road together, joined by over 1,000 local participants along the way.
The core team featured six dedicated serving officers, each bringing their branch’s pride to the mix:
– Brig Deepak Gaur from the Indian Army as Chief of Delegates
– Lt Col Dr. Vishal Chopra from the Army Medical Corps as Team Leader
– Lt Col Neelesh Tiwari from the Indian Army as a Rider
– Wg Cdr V.P. Bhatt from the Indian Air Force as a Rider
– Sqn Ldr Navneet Sharma from the Indian Air Force as a Rider
– Lt Cdr Avinash Prasad from the Indian Navy as a Rider
This wasn’t just a solo effort; it became a nationwide celebration of jointness and collaboration, echoing the message: Many languages, many cultures—one Bharat, one spirit.
The Lord Buddha Circuit route wove through iconic spots tied to Buddhist heritage, from Bihar’s ancient sites to other vibrant states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Riders engaged communities, shared stories of ethics and discipline, and inspired young people to embrace cultural pride and responsible living.
Digant Sharma, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility and Finance, summed it up beautifully: “The Lord Buddha Circuit Expedition is not just about covering miles; it’s about covering hearts. When our soldiers, youth, and citizens unite in the spirit of service, compassion, and discipline, Bharat rises as a beacon of peace and strength for the world. This journey proves that our diversity is our greatest power, and our unity is our eternal spirit.”
Backed by powerhouse partners, the expedition gained massive momentum. The BIMSTEC Secretariat supported regional ties, Nalanda University (under the Ministry of External Affairs) added academic depth, and Prasar Bharati’s Doordarshan Sports handled national broadcasts. State bodies like the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Board, Bihar Culture Department, Andhra Pradesh Culture & Tourism Ministry, Maharashtra General Administration Department, and Telangana Tourism Department pitched in with cultural and logistical help. Even the Land Port Authority of India facilitated cross-border elements, while Madhusudan Development in Mumbai and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited provided key support.
The highlights? It revived Buddhist values like non-violence, truth, and mindfulness for today’s world. It fired up youth engagement for nation-building, promoted road safety and a drug-free India, and positioned our defence forces as true role models. In short, this Tri-Services adventure wasn’t merely a ride—it sparked a movement for heritage, ethics, and empowerment that will inspire generations.
