Election Commission Backs Anbumani Ramadoss as PMK President, Extends Office Terms Till 2026
In a big boost for the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), the Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially named Anbumani Ramadoss as the party’s president. The commission also extended the tenure of key PMK office-bearers, like the general secretary and treasurer, until August 1, 2026. This move clears the air around PMK leadership and sets the stage for the party’s push in Tamil Nadu politics.
PMK spokesperson and advocate K. Balu shared the exciting news at the party’s T. Nagar headquarters in Chennai on Monday. He explained that the ECI accepted resolutions from the PMK’s general council meeting in Mamallapuram last August. Balu even showed off the official ECI letter, calling it a strong stamp of approval for Anbumani Ramadoss’s role as PMK leader.
The ECI order doesn’t stop there. It confirmed the mango as the PMK’s official election symbol and approved the T. Nagar office as the party’s recognized state headquarters. Crucially, only those who support Anbumani Ramadoss can use the PMK name and mango symbol in elections. This shuts down any talk of rival groups within the party.
"The Election Commission has cleared all confusion," Balu said. "Dr. Anbumani stays as president, and our general secretary and treasurer hold their posts until 2026." He urged the media to drop stories of PMK infighting, stressing that the party remains united under Anbumani’s guidance.
Balu highlighted that while party founder Dr. S. Ramadoss remains a respected guide, his son Anbumani holds the real decision-making power. "This order brings huge relief to our workers," he added. "It shows only those who back Dr. Anbumani can speak for PMK and use our mango symbol."
He also called on PMK members who stepped away due to recent disagreements to come back. "Now’s the time to unite and build PMK’s strength for a bigger role in Tamil Nadu politics," Balu said.
With this ECI recognition, PMK leaders feel confident heading into the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Anbumani Ramadoss now stands as the clear choice to lead the party forward, free from internal hurdles. This could reshape PMK’s strategy in the state’s competitive political scene.
