Rahul playing cheap politics over Punjab floods: BJP leader Tarun Chugh

BJP Slams Rahul Gandhi Over ‘Crocodile Tears’ on Punjab Floods

In a sharp attack, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday. He accused Gandhi of faking sympathy for Punjab flood victims and playing dirty politics with their suffering. This comes right after Gandhi’s visit to the flood-hit areas in Punjab.

Chugh didn’t hold back. He said while lakhs of Punjabis fought to save their homes, farms, and families from the devastating floods, Gandhi was chilling elsewhere in comfort. "Now that the floodwaters are finally going down and people are tallying their huge losses, he shows up for a quick photo-op. It’s all for show," Chugh blasted.

The BJP leader questioned why top Congress figures, including the Gandhi family and party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, stayed quiet for over a month as Punjab faced its worst floods in years. "This isn’t new. Congress has always been insensitive to Punjab’s pain, right from the tragic Operation Bluestar days," Chugh added.

Chugh pointed out that Gandhi’s sudden interest kicked in only after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the flood zones, checked on the victims, and promised quick help from the central government. "Rahul’s late drama is just a cheap bid to grab political points. It’s like rubbing salt in the wounds of hurting Punjabis," he said. He urged Congress to quit turning tragedies into political games, especially when people need real relief and rehab.

Gandhi, on his part, shared his thoughts on X after meeting villagers in Ghonewal. He described the scene: ruined homes, wiped-out fields, and broken lives. "The pain shows in their eyes, but their spirit stays strong," he wrote. Gandhi called on both the Punjab state government and the Centre to fast-track relief packages and compensation to those who need it most, without any delays.

Punjab BJP spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal echoed the criticism earlier. He called Gandhi’s visit a "political stunt" timed for optics, not genuine care for flood victims. Baliawal highlighted the Centre’s strong support under PM Modi. The central government has already sent Rs 1,600 crore in urgent relief to Punjab. Plus, the state has Rs 12,000 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund.

On top of that, BJP-led states like Delhi, Gujarat, Goa, and Haryana each donated Rs 5 crore to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. They’ve also rushed in thousands of trucks and train wagons loaded with food, rations, and essentials for the affected families.

Baliawal questioned why Congress-ruled states have shown zero interest in helping Punjab during this crisis. "Rahul Gandhi needs to explain this apathy from his own party governments," he said.

As Punjab recovers from the floods, the political blame game heats up. Victims, however, just want the aid to flow fast and rebuild their lives.
