Israel Strikes Hezbollah Target in Lebanon Amid Ongoing Border Tensions
Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah continue to simmer despite a fragile ceasefire. On Monday, the Israeli military carried out a strike on a Hezbollah command site in southern Lebanon, targeting what they called key infrastructure to neutralize threats.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, Israeli drones launched two missiles at a car in the town of Yater, injuring one person. Lebanon’s Health Ministry quickly confirmed the casualty from the emergency operations center.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) released a statement explaining that the operation hit Hezbollah sites and promised to keep up efforts "to remove threats to Israel." So far, Hezbollah hasn’t responded to the incident, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.
This strike comes even after a US- and French-brokered ceasefire kicked in on November 27, 2024, putting an end to over a year of fierce clashes between Israel and Hezbollah. But Israel hasn’t fully pulled back—troops remain in some border areas past the February 18 withdrawal deadline. Israeli officials say these occasional strikes in Lebanon focus on wiping out Hezbollah dangers.
Israel Hits Hamas Leaders in Bold Doha Airstrike
In a separate escalation, Israel launched a major airstrike last week in Qatar’s capital, Doha, targeting a building linked to top Hamas officials. The IDF and Israel’s Shin Bet security agency owned up to the attack in a joint statement, calling it a precise hit on Hamas leaders behind the deadly October 7 massacre. They stressed using "precise munitions and intelligence" to avoid hurting civilians.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the operation as purely Israeli-led. "Israel initiated it, Israel conducted it, and Israel takes full responsibility," he said in an official statement, according to Xinhua.
Eyewitnesses in Doha reported hearing massive explosions and spotting thick smoke rising over the city. Luckily, no casualties surfaced in initial reports from the Qatar Hamas airstrike.
These events highlight the shaky peace in the region, with Israel vowing to tackle threats from groups like Hezbollah and Hamas head-on. As cross-border attacks and Middle East conflicts persist, the world watches closely for any signs of further flare-ups.
