Kerala Police Drops Case Against Suresh Gopi Over Voter List Forgery Allegations in Thrissur

In a recent twist from Thrissur, Kerala Police have decided not to file a case against Union Minister Suresh Gopi. The allegations? Voter list manipulation during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. These claims came from Congress leader and former Thrissur MP T.N. Prathapan, but the police found no solid proof to back them up.

Suresh Gopi, the popular actor-turned-politician, made history by winning the Thrissur seat for the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. This marked the party’s first win in Kerala, beating the odds with a massive margin of over 70,000 votes. Gopi pushed the Congress candidate to third place, while CPI’s V.S. Sunil Kumar came in second. Back in 2019, Gopi had finished third, so this victory was a big surprise for many.

The trouble started right after Gopi’s win. Prathapan, who served as Thrissur MP from 2019 to 2024, didn’t contest this time. Congress instead picked K. Muraleedharan from Badagara. But Prathapan filed a complaint accusing Gopi and his brother of forging documents to illegally add their names to the Thrissur voter list. He claimed this was a deliberate move to boost Gopi’s chances in the elections.

Kerala Police jumped into action with a preliminary probe. After digging in, they said there’s not enough evidence to go ahead. Sources say Prathapan couldn’t provide the key documents needed to prove the forgery. City Police Commissioner R. Nishanthini confirmed this, pointing to the interim inquiry report. "We can’t proceed without credible documents," she said simply.

That said, the police aren’t closing the door completely on the voter list manipulation case. They’re open to revisiting it if new evidence pops up from the District Administration or the Election Commission. "We’ll look into any fresh info from the right authorities and act if needed," an official statement added.

This development eases some pressure on Suresh Gopi amid the ongoing buzz around the Thrissur election results. As Kerala gears up for more political drama, voters and leaders alike are watching closely for what comes next.
