UST Announces Winners of GenCyS 2025 CTF Competition; SRM University’s Team Emerges as Winners

UST, a top AI and tech solutions company, wrapped up its exciting GenCyS 2025 Capture the Flag (CTF) competition at its Thiruvananthapuram campus in Kerala. This cybersecurity challenge drew over 1,000 entries from students and professionals across India, testing their skills in real-world problem-solving.

The event covered tough areas like web security, forensics, cryptography, OSINT, IoT, boot to root challenges, AI puzzles, and reverse engineering. From those entries, the top 50 teams made it to the grand finale held right at UST’s Thiruvananthapuram base.

In a thrilling finish, Team Abu took the top spot. Abdur Rahman from SRM University in Tamil Nadu led the winning team. Team BirdsAreNotReal, with Vishnu AR and Sai Teja from TCS, grabbed first runner-up. Team NullByteNinjas, featuring Mohit Singh Papola and Krrish Bhurani from Poornima University in Rajasthan, came in as second runner-up.

Winners walked away with cool cash prizes for their sharp cybersecurity skills. Team Abu scored Rs 1.5 lakh total—Rs 1 lakh in cash plus Rs 50,000 in gift hampers—and even snagged a conditional job offer at UST. First runners-up got Rs 70,000, while second runners-up received Rs 30,000.

Sunil Balakrishnan, UST’s Chief Values Officer and Global Head of Development Center Operations, shared his thoughts: “Events like GenCyS help us build the next wave of cybersecurity experts through hands-on fun, fresh ideas, and lifelong learning. This CTF finale highlighted amazing talent from young pros and showed UST’s push for a strong, team-driven cybersecurity world focused on growth. Big congrats to all winners and players—their energy points to a bright future for the field.”

Muraleekrishnan Nair, Global Head of Cloud Infrastructure Services and Managing Director of CyberProof at UST, added: “Cybersecurity drives digital change, and spotting top talent keeps us one step ahead of threats. GenCyS 2025 spotlighted the smarts, tech know-how, and quick thinking of tomorrow’s pros. We’re proud to run this CTF with real challenges that boost learning and spark new ideas, gearing up the industry for a safer tomorrow. Kudos to everyone who joined and triumphed!”

Key UST leaders joined the finale and awards, including Nitin Kalra (Chief Information Security Officer), James Dasher (Global Head of Cybersecurity), and Adarsh Nair (Director & Global Head of Information Security Compliance).

The event doubled as part of UST’s Global Conference, with over 20 speakers from around the world and more than 1,000 attendees. It boosted UST’s role in the cybersecurity scene and sparked fresh ties with partners.
