Assam ACS Officer Arrested in Major Corruption Bust: Over Rs 92 Lakh Cash and Gold Seized
In a shocking development from Guwahati, Assam, anti-corruption sleuths have nabbed a senior government officer after uncovering a massive stash of cash and gold at her home. The arrested official is Nupur Bora, an Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer, and the raid has exposed serious allegations of land grabbing and illegal wealth accumulation.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the details on social media, revealing how Bora, while serving as Revenue Circle Officer in Barpeta, allegedly transferred land owned by a Satra—a traditional Vaishnavite monastery—through shady means. "We moved her from the post and ordered a probe by the CM Vigilance team," Sarma explained. "In recent days, we kept tabs on her movements. On Sunday, she checked into a resort in Namsai, and as soon as she returned home, our team swooped in and arrested her."
The raid turned up jaw-dropping finds. The CM Vigilance and Anti-Corruption team seized over Rs 92 lakh in cash, gold ornaments, and even discovered two lockers. Sarma highlighted the scale of the corruption, noting, "Her assets are 400 times more than her declared income—it’s a clear case of unexplained wealth."
A top Vigilance official confirmed to that the searches kicked off on September 15 across four locations connected to Bora. They’ve now filed a formal case against her under anti-corruption laws. Reports also point to Bora’s involvement in illegally transferring lands from Hindu community members to suspected outsiders, adding fuel to the fire.
The investigation is far from over. Vigilance teams are digging deeper into Bora’s assets, her role in these land transfer scams, and whether others were in on it.
