Chennai Brothers Shine in Qatar Motorbike Championship
In an exciting weekend at Doha’s Losail International Circuit, Chennai brothers Geoffrey and Johann Emmanuel grabbed three podium spots in the Qatar 2W Championship. The siblings dominated in different categories, marking their strong entry into the high-speed world of motorcycle racing in Qatar.
Geoffrey Emmanuel, the 20-year-old trailblazer as the first Indian rider in the FIM JuniorGP World Championship, made his debut in the SuperSport 600 class. He clinched third place in both races, showing real grit on the track.
In Race 1, Geoffrey started strong from third but slipped back early on. He didn’t give up, battling through the pack with smart overtakes to finish third. Race 2 saw him hold his spot at the start, and even after losing some speed later, he nailed another podium. "Racing in SuperSport 600 for the first time felt amazing," Geoffrey shared. "I learned tons from both races and loved fighting back in the first one. We’ve got room to grow, but this is just the start."
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Johann Emmanuel stole the show in the Superstock 600cc category. He faced a scary setback in Race 1 but bounced back to win Race 2 with a huge 20-second lead.
During Race 1, Johann led by over 10 seconds and chased riders from a tougher class. But at over 200 km/h, his bike hit a false neutral, locking the rear wheel and sending him crashing in the circuit’s fastest section. It ended his lead, but Johann’s spirit stayed strong.
Switching bikes for Race 2, he stayed calm and raced smart, even without pushing flat out. That composure earned him first place. "Looking back at the grid for my debut gave me goosebumps," Johann said. "Qualifying fourth felt unreal. It’s a shame I couldn’t win both, but grabbing P1 in Race 2 after that crash means everything."
The Emmanuel brothers’ success highlights India’s rising talent in international motorbike racing. Their podium finishes in the Qatar 2W Championship at Losail International Circuit inspire young riders back home. With more races ahead, fans can’t wait to see what these Chennai speedsters do next.
