In a fun chat shared by Sony Sports Network during the ongoing Asia Cup, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson built his dream batter by picking the best traits from his teammates. The video has cricket fans buzzing, as Samson mixed humor with sharp insights into what makes a top player.

Starting with swagger, Samson didn’t hesitate. “Swagger has to be Hardik Pandya,” he said, praising the all-rounder’s bold six-hitting and confident style that lights up the field. For the smooth bat swing, he turned to young opener Abhishek Sharma, who’s been smashing it lately. And when it came to raw power-hitting? Samson picked himself, no surprise there!

He kept it classy by choosing vice-captain Shubman Gill for elegance—think those silky cover drives. For a full range of shots, T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav got the nod. “The way he plays 360 degrees, that will be good,” Samson added with a grin.

But here’s where it got cheeky: defense. “I don’t see anyone defending nowadays. No one is doing it. Everyone is standing and hitting sixes,” Samson laughed. So, for that rare skill, he jokingly picked star pacer Jasprit Bumrah—talk about thinking outside the box! Finally, for clutch moments under pressure, Samson selected head coach Gautam Gambhir, remembering his game-changing knocks in the 2007 T20 World Cup final and the 2011 ODI World Cup final.

Samson’s own form has been on fire lately, giving fans plenty to cheer. After some tough years, he reinvented himself as an opener in India’s T20I side last year, smashing 487 runs in 17 matches at a stunning average of 57.29— including three centuries and a fifty. He lit up series against Bangladesh and South Africa with three tons in just five innings.

Sure, he faced some short-ball woes during the England T20Is, managing only 51 runs in five outings. But Samson bounced back strong in the recent Kerala Cricket League, where he racked up 368 runs in five matches for Kochi Blue Tigers. Batting at an average of 73.60 and a strike rate of 186.80, he smashed a century, three fifties, and a whopping 30 sixes. His team clinched the title, and he finished as their fourth-highest scorer.

So far in the Asia Cup, though, Samson hasn’t batted yet, slotted in the middle order behind openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill. India has already locked in a Super Four spot with wins over UAE and Pakistan. Their next match is against Oman on September 19—could this be Samson’s chance to unleash that power-hitting? Cricket lovers can’t wait to see.
