Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Launches Mission Chardi Kala to Rebuild Flood-Hit State
In a heartfelt video message, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann kicked off Mission Chardi Kala on Wednesday—a global fundraising drive to help flood victims get back on their feet. The campaign aims to support rehabilitation efforts after one of the worst natural disasters to hit Punjab.
The floods wreaked havoc across the state. Over 2,300 villages went underwater, affecting more than two million people. Farmers lost five lakh acres of crops, 56 lives were claimed, and around seven lakh people now have no homes. The damage didn’t stop there: 3,200 government schools suffered major harm, 19 colleges lie in ruins, 1,400 clinics and hospitals got destroyed, 8,500 km of roads washed away, and 2,500 bridges collapsed. Early estimates put the total loss at a staggering Rs 13,800 crore, but the real figure could be even higher.
CM Mann called this Punjab’s most terrifying tragedy and its biggest challenge yet. But he highlighted the unbreakable spirit of the people. "Even in the middle of the floods, I saw young people risking their lives to rescue others," he shared. "Gurdwaras and temples opened wide, serving food to those in need, and the whole state came together like one big family. That’s our real strength."
Now, Mann says it’s time to shift from relief to rebuilding. Farmers need help to sow their fields again, kids must get back to school, and families have to reconstruct their homes. That’s where Mission Chardi Kala steps in—its name means staying strong and hopeful, even in tough times.
The Chief Minister made a passionate appeal to everyone: Punjabis at home and abroad, fellow Indians, industrialists, artists, charitable trusts, and all well-wishers. "Punjab needs you right now," he urged. "Let’s join hands and lift our state together."
He promised full transparency—every rupee donated will go straight to rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts. To contribute, people can visit the official website www.rangla.punjab.gov.in. A special war room in the CM’s office will monitor all activities to ensure smooth progress.
Mann ended on an optimistic note: "Together, we’ll show the world that Punjab never backs down. We’ll rise again in Chardi Kala." This initiative has already sparked hope, as Punjab unites to recover from the devastating floods.
