Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has kicked off the fifth phase of Mission Shakti, a key program focused on women’s safety, dignity, and empowerment. This exciting new chapter starts with Sharadiya Navratri on September 22 and runs for 30 days, aiming to reach even more women across the state.
Since launching in 2020, Mission Shakti has made big strides in boosting women security and self-reliance in Uttar Pradesh. With four phases already under its belt, this one promises deeper impact through better coordination between departments.
In a high-level meeting with top officials on Wednesday, Yogi Adityanath pushed for ramped-up foot patrols and non-stop action from PRV-112 vehicles on the roads. He urged senior police leaders—like zonal ADGs, IGs, and DIGs—to hit the ground running: visit communities, check police stations, and join patrols. “People should feel safe, and criminals should fear the law,” he said, stressing zero tolerance for offenders, no matter their gender.
Yogi Adityanath spotlighted the growing role of women police officers, now numbering 44,177 strong. During the campaign, these officers will fan out to all 57,000 gram panchayats and 14,000 urban wards in stages. Teaming up with village heads, councillors, ASHAs, ANMs, and Anganwadi workers, they’ll chat directly with women and girls, listen to their issues, and spread the word on rights and government schemes. They’ll also guide everyone on quick emergency help.
For Navratri and upcoming festivals, the CM ordered extra women police at temples, religious spots, fairs, and public areas. He wants the Anti-Romeo Squad beefed up, with fair but tough action against wrongdoers—only real culprits get prosecuted, and strict measures stop repeat crimes against women.
To build awareness, Yogi Adityanath called for dialogues, seminars, and programs in every district, involving hospitals, industries, schools, colleges, and universities. Students will learn about women safety and gender equality through fun sessions and short films.
He also pushed for stronger support systems: better legal aid for women in prison, fast-track trials for crimes against women, and serious handling of every call to the women helpline 1090. Pink Booths will pop up in all municipal corporations, running 24/7, while Mission Shakti Centres get staff trained in gender sensitivity, digital evidence, case handling, and financial aid. These centres will offer everything from complaints to counselling and legal help in one spot.
Yogi Adityanath made it clear: Mission Shakti isn’t just a program—it’s a social movement for women’s protection and respect. Officials must run it like a mission, touching every village, ward, and family in Uttar Pradesh.
Looking back, the previous phase shone bright. Over 3.44 lakh events drew in 2.03 crore women and girls, with 9,172 women beat officers and 18,344 women police on duty. Tools like Women Helpline 1090, Emergency Service 112, Pink Booths, Pink Scooty patrols, Asha Jyoti Kendras, CCTVs, and panic buttons delivered real results.
Uttar Pradesh leads the nation with a 98.80% case disposal rate on the ITSSO portal for sexual offences. Even the National Conference of Women in Police wants other states to copy the UP model for Mission Shakti and helpline 1090.
Key operations from the last phase included Operation Garuda against cyber criminals, Operation Bachpan that rescued 2,857 kids and nabbed 22 offenders, Operation Majnu targeting over 74,000 youths, Operation Nasha Mukti with 40,000+ arrests, Operation Raksha cleaning up hotels and pubs, and Operation Eagle leading to 7,000 arrests. With this momentum, the fifth phase of Mission Shakti looks set to empower women like never before in Uttar Pradesh.
