Shocking Murder Case: Bhubaneswar Traffic Constable Killed by Husband, Body Found Buried in Jungle
In a heartbreaking twist, Bhubaneswar police have solved the missing case of 25-year-old traffic constable Subhamitra Sahoo. She vanished on September 6, but her husband confessed to strangling her and burying her body in a remote jungle spot. Commissioner of Police Suresh Dev Datt Singh shared the chilling details with reporters on Wednesday.
Subhamitra, from Pichukuli in Khordha district, worked as a traffic constable in Bhubaneswar. She reported for duty on September 6 but never made it home. Her family filed a missing person report at Capital Police Station the next day. Police jumped into action with a massive search, even checking religious sites like Banaras and Mathura after spotting hints in her chats.
Turns out, Subhamitra married Deepak Kumar Rout, a fellow constable in the Commissionerate Police, on July 23, 2024. Their relationship had been rocky for over a year. During questioning on September 17, Deepak broke down and admitted everything. He picked her up from work in his Honda City car (OD-02-R-8494) around 2-3 PM in the Unit-VI area. There, he strangled her in a fit of rage.
The fights? All over money. Subhamitra wanted Rs 20 lakh for a proper wedding ceremony with rituals, sparking constant arguments. Police suspect Deepak might have eyed her insurance money too, but they’re digging deeper into that angle.
Deepak drove her body to an isolated jungle near Ghatagaon in Keonjhar district and buried it in a gunny bag. During a crime scene recreation, officers exhumed the remains, confirming the tragic end. They’ve now registered a case under Sections 103(1) and 238 of the BNS at Capital Police Station. Deepak is in custody, and the investigation continues to uncover any hidden motives.
