Jhansi Boosts Women’s Safety with New Pink Toilets Under Swachh Bharat Mission

In Jhansi, the Municipal Corporation has rolled out 12 special pink toilets to make public spaces cleaner and safer for women. This exciting initiative falls under the Swachh Bharat Mission, India’s massive cleanliness drive aimed at better sanitation for everyone.

These pink toilets stand out with their women-friendly features. You’ll find dedicated female staff keeping things spotless, sanitary napkin dispensers for quick access, first-aid kits for emergencies, and strict hygiene rules to ensure everything stays safe and clean. They run from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, so women can use them anytime they need.

The best part? The corporation placed these toilets right near colleges and universities. This makes life easier for female students and daily commuters who often face challenges finding safe restrooms on the go.

Sunil Kumar Mishra, the Assistant Controller, shared his thoughts: "We’ve built and are running these ‘Pink Toilets’ just for women. They come with female cleaners, sanitary napkins, and first-aid kits. Thanks to funding from the Swachh Bharat Mission, women in Jhansi are now enjoying these upgraded facilities that promote safety and hygiene."

The Swachh Bharat Mission kicked off in 2014 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. It’s the country’s biggest push for cleanliness, starting with a huge pledge event at India Gate in Delhi. Around 30 lakh government employees joined in, and PM Modi even led a walkathon on Rajpath to show everyone how it’s done.

Fast forward to today, and the mission keeps gaining steam. As part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ 2025 campaign, a fun nationwide event called "Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath" is set for September 25, 2025. It invites communities to team up for one day, one hour of collective cleaning to spread the sanitation message.

Remember, the rural arm of Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) launched on October 2, 2014, with a bold goal: make India open defecation free by 2019. It worked wonders, boosting rural toilet coverage from just 39% in 2014 to 100% today by building over 10 crore household toilets.

The whole campaign rests on five strong pillars—no-carpet-cleaning public areas, support for sanitation workers through Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs, eco-friendly festival tips, awareness drives, and turning key spots into cleanliness hubs.

Jhansi’s pink toilets perfectly capture this spirit. They give women dignified, secure options for sanitation, proving how Swachh Bharat Mission is changing lives one facility at a time. If you’re in Jhansi or following cleanliness efforts, this is a great step toward a healthier, safer India.
