“Hindi Films fail to depict the true heroism of Mumbai Police,” says Maharashtra CM Fadnavis

Mumbai, India – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis joined the Indian Police Foundation’s (IPF) Annual Day event in Mumbai on September 20. The gathering, themed “Reimagining the Police for India’s Economic Development,” got a boost from co-organizers Indian Masterminds.

In his speech at the IPF Annual Day 2025, Fadnavis kicked things off by thanking the team for picking Mumbai as the spot. He then turned to a fun gripe about Bollywood: Hindi films have long shortchanged the Mumbai Police’s image. “Movies often miss the mark,” he said. “They show cops showing up hours late to crime scenes, but in reality, our police get there fast every time.”

Fadnavis praised the Maharashtra Police and Mumbai Police for upholding top-notch standards. “Both forces have built a solid reputation across India as dependable guardians,” he added.

Shifting gears, the chief minister spotlighted how technology is shaking up policing. Many officers are diving in to learn and use cutting-edge tools, he noted. On innovation, he stressed the importance of flexible structures to fuel progress – and Maharashtra is leading the way.

“We’ve set up a state-of-the-art cybersecurity lab,” Fadnavis shared. “Our police talent is turning heads; we’ve got the country’s most advanced cybersecurity center right here. Four nations have reached out, and one even asked us to help build something similar for them.”

Fadnavis didn’t hold back on the growing menace of drugs and narcotics, especially how they target young people. “This is hitting our youth hard on a massive scale,” he warned. “We need zero tolerance. If any officer gets caught up in it, we’ll fast-track their dismissal. No room for that in our force.”

He also pointed out how online spots like Instagram are turning into hotbeds for these illegal trades. “New markets pop up all the time, so we have to stay sharp and evolve with them,” Fadnavis said.
