Rising young music director Sai Abhyankkar is setting the record straight on rumors of a rivalry with Tamil cinema star composer Anirudh. Speaking at the pre-release event for the bilingual sports action drama Balti, Sai made it clear there’s no competition between them.
This event marked Sai’s first-ever press conference, where reporters asked if he and Anirudh were battling it out in the music scene. The 20-year-old talent responded with a smile: "That’s not true. Anirudh has done a lot. I’ve only just started. With your prayers and blessings, I’m just looking forward to working more. There’s no competition at all."
Balti, directed by Unni Sivalingam, stars Shane Nigam in the lead and marks Sai Abhyankkar’s debut in Malayalam cinema. Nigam couldn’t stop praising the soundtrack, saying he’s "addicted" to the songs and super proud to have Sai composing for the film.
Sai’s quick rise in Tamil music circles started with his viral independent single "Katchi Sera," which exploded on social media and caught filmmakers’ attention. Now, directors are lining up to work with this fresh talent.
He’s already scoring music for Suriya’s 45th film, Pradeep Ranganathan’s next project with Mythri Movie Makers, and the highly anticipated Allu Arjun-Atlee collaboration, known as AA22. Plus, Sai will handle the tunes for Simbu’s upcoming #STR49, produced by Dawn Pictures.
Fans of Tamil cinema music and young composers like Sai Abhyankkar are buzzing about what’s next for this rising sensation.
