“Always been a prodigy”: Sai Kishore praises Shubman Gill’s leadership skills

In Chennai, Gujarat Titans spinner Sai Kishore has nothing but praise for Shubman Gill’s natural leadership skills. He highlighted Gill’s strong performance as captain for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL and during India’s recent Test tour of England.
Gill stepped up as India’s Test captain after Rohit Sharma retired. He guided the team through the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series against England, which wrapped up in an exciting 2-2 draw. On the IPL front, Gill took over as Gujarat Titans captain before the 2024 season, following Hardik Pandya’s exit from the franchise. He kept the role into 2025 and led the team to the playoffs that year, showing real promise as a leader.
Talking to , Sai Kishore shared his thoughts on Gill’s rise. “Shubman has always been a prodigy, from junior cricket to domestic levels, India A, IPL, and beyond. He’s scored tons of runs, and it’s no surprise he took to captaincy like a fish to water. The way he led in the IPL was impressive, and seeing him captain in England took it to another level. There were plenty of doubts about how India would handle conditions there, but the way they fought back in that series builds huge confidence—for fans and players alike. It shows we’re heading in the right direction.”
Sai Kishore also gave a shoutout to Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra, crediting his deep playing experience and sharp game sense for keeping the team united and strong. Under Nehra’s guidance, GT claimed their first IPL title in 2022.
“I’ve been with GT for the last four years, and I can say he’s one of the best coaches in the country,” Kishore added. “He played the sport for so long and understands it inside out, which helps not just the bowlers but the entire team. He’s the key factor holding the Gujarat Titans together.”
Nehra first joined GT as bowling coach from 2018 to 2019, sharpening the team’s bowling attack with his expertise. In 2022, he became head coach of the new franchise and delivered big results right away—topping the IPL table and beating Rajasthan Royals in the final to win the championship.
