J-K: Officials spread awareness on govt schemes under ‘Aadi Karmayogi’ in Rajouri

In Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, local officials are hitting the ground running along the Line of Control villages. They’re part of the government’s Aadi Karmayogi Programme, designed to spotlight welfare schemes and figure out what residents really need at the community level.

Dutta Ram, the Block Development Officer for Doongi Block, shared details during a visit on Saturday. He told that locals are calling for a new husbandry center to support farming and livestock needs, plus better road links to make daily life easier. The outreach kicked off on September 15 and wraps up on September 30. “We’re all heading to the villages, hearing people’s problems firsthand, and building plans based on that,” Ram said. He emphasized how the program listens to grievances and tailors development to fit.

Meanwhile, heavy rains and landslides have wrecked havoc in the area, especially on the vital 32-kilometer Kotranka-Khawas road. This key route, freshly built in 2023-24, connects the Kotranka sub-division to Khawas tehsil. For the last 15 days, it’s been fully cut off, leaving residents in a tough spot—no buses for students heading to school, and sick folks facing long treks to reach hospitals.

Restoration work started on September 16, but teams hit a snag with ongoing land subsidence, or sinking ground, forcing a pause. Additional Deputy Commissioner Kornataka Dilmir Choudhary explained the situation to . “Damage is clear, and we’re pushing ahead with fixes,” he said. “Doctors are setting up medical camps in various spots to help right away. Since the Kotranka-Khawas road took a beating, we’re building a fresh one instead. We’ve issued short-term tenders, and construction is moving forward with government funds already approved.”

The landslides didn’t just hit the road— they’ve triggered land subsidence in spots, putting homes at risk. At least seven houses suffered major damage, including one two-story building that slid about 50 meters but stayed standing. Panic is spreading among families in the area.

Locals like Jatinder Sharma from Badhal village are feeling the pinch hard. Speaking to on Tuesday, he said, “This road’s been shut for 15 days because of floods. It links to other paths too, so elders and kids are struggling big time. No one’s fixed it yet—we just want it back up and running.”

Despite the challenges, the Rajouri administration keeps focusing on quick relief through camps and road rebuilding efforts amid the Jammu and Kashmir floods and landslides.
