In Bengaluru, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla fired back at Rahul Gandhi over his recent “vote chori” or vote theft claims. Poonawalla said the Election Commission isn’t targeting Gandhi—instead, Gandhi carries the same “Emergency mindset” as his grandmother, Indira Gandhi, where family rule trumps democracy and even the Constitution.
Speaking at a press conference in the BJP’s state office on Saturday, Poonawalla recalled how one of Indira’s aides once declared, “Indira is India, India is Indira.” He slammed the Gandhi family for pushing dynasty politics above everything else. “Whenever Rahul Gandhi loses an election, he points fingers at the Election Commission,” Poonawalla said. “But when his team wins in places like Telangana, Jharkhand, or Jammu and Kashmir, he stays quiet. Remember his Supreme Court run after losses in Maharashtra? Or the Aland constituency mess in Karnataka, where officials clarified voters’ names can’t just vanish online?”
Poonawalla urged Gandhi to look closer to home. He highlighted how a Karnataka High Court recently disqualified Congress MLA K.Y. Nanjegowda. Then he brought up a viral video of Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara chanting “katakat, katakat,” hinting at nonstop voting tricks. “Rahul should check that out, along with clips of Shashi Tharoor and Kirti Azad,” he challenged. Poonawalla didn’t hold back: Indira Gandhi herself faced conviction for electoral malpractice. “They’re the real experts at this game,” he quipped. “Clean your own house first.”
Shifting to Congress infighting, Poonawalla noted how Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar once sang a controversial tune and had to apologize. Now, some party leaders are joining ABVP events to push back against Rahul Gandhi. “This darbar-style party is crumbling,” he predicted.
Poonawalla also called out Gandhi for dragging vote theft into the Vice-Presidential election talk, saying it insulted vice presidents from Tamil Nadu and the state’s people.
The event drew BJP figures like state general secretary and MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta, plus others including N. Ravikumar, former MP Muniswamy, MLA C.K. Ramamurthy, and spokespersons Surabhi Hodigere and Karunakar Khasale.
Later that day, at Silicon City College, Poonawalla praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for India’s self-reliance in COVID-19 vaccines. He voiced serious worries about Bengaluru’s pothole-plagued roads, pointing out how metro lines now stretch across 25 cities thanks to government efforts.
In an interactive session, he highlighted the boom in airports under the BJP-NDA government. Poonawalla called on 2028 voters to choose a stronger Bengaluru and a thriving Karnataka. On the economic front, he said entrepreneurs no longer dread the GST regime—simplifications have made it a real boon for businesses.
Joining him were college chairman Chandrashekar, along with BJP’s Karunakar Khasale, Sharath Hegde, Trishul Reddy, Akshay Rai, and Surabhi Hodigere.
