Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal kicked off a series of exciting new initiatives on Saturday to supercharge the ‘Make in India’ program as it celebrates its 10th anniversary. This flagship scheme has already helped India become more self-reliant by drawing in investments, sparking innovation, and building top-notch infrastructure that turns the country into a global leader in manufacturing, design, and innovation.
To mark the milestone, Goyal unveiled a special ‘Make in India’ commemorative coin. He also spotlighted fresh efforts from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) designed to boost efficiency and create a cutting-edge logistics system ready for global competition.
One big step forward is the launch of Integrated State and City Logistics Plans under the SMILE program. Partnering with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), this starts in eight cities across eight states to modernize India’s logistics infrastructure and smooth out supply chains nationwide. DPIIT is leading the charge, showing the government’s strong push to make logistics faster and more reliable.
Goyal released a handy Guidebook on Mapping Harmonised System of Nomenclature (HSN) Codes, put together by DPIIT. It covers 12,167 HSN codes spread across 31 ministries and departments, helping craft smarter policies and strengthen trade talks.
The minister also rolled out the Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) 2025 index. This tool benchmarks how well logistics work in states and union territories, pushing India toward a world-class, future-proof logistics network.
Adding to the momentum, Goyal introduced Logistics Data Bank (LDB) 2.0. This upgrade offers key data on facilities and infrastructure in the logistics sector, supporting a digital, investment-friendly economy that’s primed for exports.
Finally, he launched the Industrial Park Rating System (IPRS) 3.0, developed by DPIIT with ADB’s help. It aims to beef up India’s industrial parks and make them more competitive on the world stage.
