Former President Donald Trump is pushing hard to get Bagram Air Base back from the Taliban in Afghanistan. He made that clear during a recent statement, warning that the U.S. wants control soon or faces serious consequences.
“We’re talking now to Afghanistan, and we want it back, and we want it back soon,” Trump said. “If they don’t do it, you’re going to find out what I’m going to do.” His words came up when reporters asked about the chance of American troops returning to Afghan soil.
Earlier, Trump fired off a strong message on Truth Social. “If Afghanistan doesn’t give Bagram Airbase back to those that built it, the United States of America, BAD THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN!!!” he posted. The base has been under Taliban control since U.S. forces pulled out of Afghanistan in 2021.
Trump also touched on other global issues. He’s heading to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he’ll meet more than 20 world leaders. The high-level UNGA sessions kick off on Monday, September 22, marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.
On the recent Russian jets buzzing Estonian airspace, Trump kept it short. “I haven’t been briefed about it,” he said. NATO stepped in on Friday, intercepting three Russian aircraft over Estonia amid rising tensions. Europe stays on high alert after a series of Russian violations in eastern skies.
Russia ramped up its attacks too, launching a major aerial assault on Ukraine. Some strikes hit close to Poland’s western border, according to CNN reports. Poland’s military reacted quickly, scrambling fighter jets and putting air defenses on full alert. “Due to the activity of the Russian Federation long-range aviation, which is carrying out strikes on the territory of Ukraine, Polish and allied aviation has begun operating in our airspace,” they posted on X. Ground-based systems and radar are now at maximum readiness.
