Fans in Guwahati gathered in huge numbers on Sunday as the body of beloved singer Zubeen Garg arrived from Delhi. The 52-year-old artist, famous for hits like “Ya Ali,” tragically died in a scuba diving accident in Singapore on September 19. His sudden passing has left millions heartbroken across India, especially in Assam, where he was a cultural icon.

Zubeen’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, shared an emotional video message on his official Instagram account. With folded hands, she pleaded for peace during her husband’s final journey. “I’m asking everyone to come together—Zubeen is finally coming home,” she said. “You all showered him with love and blessings when he was with us, and Zubeen always gave that love back. I hope his final rites are peaceful. The police and state authorities are fully supporting us.”

She also addressed recent FIRs filed against Zubeen’s longtime manager, Siddharth Sarma. Garima called him a brother to her husband and urged fans to set aside any negativity. “Siddharth has been with us from the start,” she explained. “Remember in 2020, when Zubeen had a severe seizure and we rushed him to Mumbai? During the lockdown, Siddharth made sure we had food and supplies. He even brought Zubeen back by bus.” She added, “Zubeen always stood by him. Please let Siddharth be part of this journey. Tomorrow, I’ll need my people around me, and I need his support—without him, I won’t be able to handle everything.”

In Guwahati, grieving fans lit candles and mourned the loss of their star. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita joined tributes at Delhi’s IGI Airport.

The Assam government has arranged for Zubeen’s body to lie in state at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex in Sarusajai, Guwahati, on September 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Fans, friends, and admirers can pay their last respects there. In an official tweet, the government described Zubeen as “an artist larger than life, a cultural icon, filmmaker, and the eternal heartthrob of millions.” They asked everyone to cooperate for a dignified farewell to Assam’s beloved son.

To honor the singer’s legacy, the Assam government declared a three-day state mourning period. No official entertainment, ceremonial programs, or public celebrations will take place during this time. Zubeen Garg’s death in scuba diving accident continues to dominate searches, as fans worldwide remember his contributions to Assamese and Indian music.
