A Hezbollah fighter died in an Israeli airstrike on a civilian car in southern Lebanon, Lebanese officials and security sources say.

The strike happened Saturday on the Khardali-Marjayoun road in the eastern part of the southern border area. An Israeli drone hit the vehicle, killing Hassan Shahrour, a Hezbollah activist from the village of Kafr Kila, according to the Lebanese National News Agency and army intelligence sources.

This attack comes despite a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel that started on November 27, 2024. The U.S. and France brokered the deal to end fierce clashes that broke out after the war in Gaza began.

Israel’s military still launches occasional strikes in Lebanon, saying they target Hezbollah threats. The Israeli forces also hold five positions along the Lebanese border.

Just days earlier, on September 18, Israel carried out several airstrikes across southern Lebanon. The targets included villages like Mays el Jabal, Dibbine, and Kfar Tebnit, hitting what the military called Hezbollah infrastructure. Officials said the group was trying to rebuild operations there.

Those strikes killed two Hezbollah members and injured 11 others in separate attacks on Tebnine and Ansar. The victims were Hussein Hassan Ramadan and Ammar Hayel Qsaybani, per Lebanese army intelligence.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam slammed Israel’s actions, calling them a clear violation of the ceasefire and UN Resolution 1701. He urged the international community—especially the ceasefire sponsors—to push Israel to stop the attacks, pull out from occupied areas, and free Lebanese detainees.
