‘GST Savings Festival’ begins today, BJP MPs to promote new tax rates across markets

India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) kicked off a fun, nationwide push called the “GST Savings Festival” to show how the latest Goods and Services Tax (GST) changes can save people money. The week-long event starts today and runs until September 29, urging BJP lawmakers and volunteers to hit local markets and spread the word on the perks of GST 2.0.

Party leaders want everyone to feel the excitement, especially with Navratri celebrations coming up. BJP Members of Parliament (MPs) and workers will stroll through markets each day with morning and evening foot marches, or padyatras. They’ll pop into shops, hand out flowers to shopkeepers, and share festive wishes. To amp up the vibe, they’ll give out eye-catching placards with slogans like “Say it with pride, this is Swadeshi” or “Say it with pride, this is Made in India.” Shop owners get encouraged to display these proudly.

This GST campaign ties right into a bigger “Swadeshi Campaign” that boosts homegrown products and India’s self-reliance drive. Expect banners waving Swadeshi messages during the marches, and the placards will come in local languages for a consistent look across the country. Every MP has to report back on their market visits to party offices at the state and national levels.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the “GST Utsav” in a speech yesterday, dubbing it a “festival of savings” for all Indians. He highlighted how these GST reforms target help for the poor, middle class, small businesses (MSMEs), women, and young people. “From tomorrow, you’ll buy your favorite items more easily. This is like a GST saving festival for every family,” Modi said, pointing to real savings in everyday budgets.

The timing is spot-on with GST 2.0 rolling out today. This big update simplifies the tax system into just two slabs and slashes rates on more than 375 items. Think everyday essentials like food, snacks, medicines, and household goods—they’re all getting cheaper for shoppers. Businesses win too, with easier rules to follow.

Overall, the BJP hopes this outreach will get people chatting about how GST reforms make life more affordable while cheering on Indian-made goods.
