India, Brazil “chartering course for future partnership in the next 10 years,” says Brazil envoy

Brazil’s ambassador to India, Kenneth Felix Haczynski da Nobrega, highlighted how Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent state visit to Brazil is already sparking real action in the India-Brazil partnership. Speaking at an event in New Delhi on Monday, Nobrega pointed out that Modi’s July trip set up five key pillars to guide ties between the two nations over the next decade. Two of those pillars—food security through agricultural cooperation and joint efforts in science, technology, and innovation—are jumping into action right now via the Maitri 2.0 India-Brazil Cross Border Agri-Tech incubators program.

“PM Modi made a very important state visit to Brazil back in July,” Nobrega told . “I was there when the two leaders discussed and set those five pillars as a roadmap for our future partnership. We’re thrilled that less than two months later, we’re hands-on implementing what our leaders envisioned, starting with food security and science, technology, and innovation.”

The Maitri 2.0 event brings together scientists and researchers from both countries for a five-day push on agricultural innovation. Nobrega called India and Brazil “agricultural powerhouses,” noting they’re consistently among the world’s top three or four producers each year. The focus? Teaming up to build resilience against climate change and extreme weather while ramping up productivity in farming.

This builds on Modi’s trip to Brazil in July, where he stressed the strength of the India-Brazil partnership. During talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Modi said the collaboration serves as a pillar of stability and balance. “As two large democratic countries, our cooperation matters not just for the Global South, but for all of humanity,” Modi remarked in a joint press statement. “We have a moral duty to spotlight the Global South’s concerns on the world stage.”

These steps show how India and Brazil are turning words into deeds, strengthening agricultural cooperation and tech ties to tackle global challenges like food security head-on.
