Pakistan’s women’s cricket team wrapped up their preparations for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 with a strong six-wicket victory over South Africa in the third ODI on Monday in Lahore.
Nashra Sundhu stole the show for the hosts, earning Player of the Match honors with her career-best figures of 6 for 26. That performance ranks as the second-best bowling haul in Pakistan women’s ODI history, just behind Sajjida Shah’s 7 for 4 against Japan in 2003, according to the ICC.
South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first, but they struggled right from the start against Pakistan’s sharp bowling attack. Diana Baig and Omaima Sohail struck early, dismissing openers Laura Wolvaardt and Karabo Meso in quick succession.
Sundhu then dominated the middle overs, cleaning up the South African middle order during the batting powerplay and beyond. She removed captain Sune Luus and several others, bundling the visitors out for a modest 115 runs.
Chasing the target, Pakistan made light work of it, reaching 116 for 4 with 19 overs to spare. In-form batter Sidra Amin led the charge once again, smashing 50 runs off 94 balls to finish as the series’ top scorer. She had already notched back-to-back centuries in the first two games, where South Africa took a 2-0 lead.
This win gives Pakistan a boost heading into the Women’s Cricket World Cup, which kicks off on September 30 in India and Sri Lanka. Both teams will play warm-up matches starting September 25. Pakistan opens their campaign against Bangladesh on October 2 in Colombo, while South Africa faces England the next day in Guwahati.
