BJP hails GST reforms as festival of savings; cites record car sales, relief in medicine prices

BJP spokesperson and Lok Sabha MP Sambit Patra hailed the launch of new GST reforms on September 22 as a huge win for Indian consumers. Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi on Tuesday, he called the first day a “bonanza” that kicked off alongside the start of Navratra, sparking massive excitement across the country.
Patra pointed to booming sales in the automobile sector as a key highlight. “Maruti Suzuki shattered its 35-year sales record on day one, delivering 25,000 cars,” he said. Hyundai showrooms saw their best numbers in five years, while Tata Motors fielded 25,000 inquiries and handed over 10,000 vehicles. Mahindra and other brands reported similar festive vibes from eager buyers.
Dealerships stayed open until midnight to meet the demand, with over 80,000 inquiries pouring in and 75,000 bookings locked in nationwide. “Customer enthusiasm felt just like a festival,” Patra added.
The reforms also brought quick relief to everyday households through lower prices on essential items. In the health sector, Patra noted sharp drops in medicine costs after GST rate changes. Patients grabbing drugs for blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, throat infections, fever, and more saved between Rs 300 and Rs 500 right away. Savings extended to health insurance, footwear, garments, and electronics, easing the burden on the average family.
BJP and NDA ministers hit the markets on Monday to chat with shopkeepers and shoppers. The response was glowing, with many calling it a “festival of savings.” Patra emphasized how these GST reforms in India will ramp up purchasing power and build consumer confidence.
Tying it to the cultural moment, Patra said the timing couldn’t be better: “Launching on the first day of Navratra feels like a blessing—a true celebration for every household.”
