Leaders from several Indian opposition parties are piling pressure on the Election Commission of India (ECI) to tackle serious claims of vote theft raised by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. They argue the poll body must respond clearly to keep public trust intact.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi chief Saurabh Bharadwaj told that the ECI, as a key constitutional authority, has no choice but to address factual allegations like these. “Even if an everyday person raises a concern based on solid facts, the ECI must reply,” he said. Bharadwaj pointed out that under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, anyone—from a laborer to the Prime Minister’s Office—can demand answers, including from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He added that people across India are starting to see signs of widespread vote manipulation, and the ECI seems to be hiding it by twisting RTI responses.
Earlier, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) vice president Prasanna Acharya echoed the call, urging the ECI to handle Rahul Gandhi’s vote theft accusations transparently and without any political slant. Speaking to , Acharya stressed that it’s the ECI’s core job to clear up these doubts. “Rahul Gandhi is bringing up grave issues that no one can ignore,” he said. “If the ECI doesn’t respond properly, the whole country will stay suspicious.” He warned that acting like a political party would be a big mistake for the poll panel.
The BJD has even filed a petition over concerns about fair elections and voter list preparation, demanding full clarity to satisfy voters everywhere.
Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) MP Sanjay Raut jumped in too, backing Rahul Gandhi’s vote theft claims. He alleged that almost 90% of the ruling Mahayuti alliance’s MLAs in Maharashtra grabbed their seats through similar rigging.
These comments come right after Rahul Gandhi’s recent spotlight on vote fraud in Karnataka’s Aland Assembly constituency, where he claimed around 6,000 votes got stolen. Back on September 18 in New Delhi, Gandhi held a press conference blasting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar for shielding “vote chors” (vote thieves). He said the CEC knows all about shady additions and deletions of fake voters in electoral rolls and that Gandhi has proof—at least 10%—of the commission’s role in covering it up.
