PM Modi launches projects worth Rs 1.22 lakh crore in Rajasthan’s Banswara, slams Congress

Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off major development projects worth Rs 1.22 lakh crore during his visit to Banswara in Rajasthan on Thursday. He didn’t hold back in criticizing the Congress party for neglecting India’s energy needs over the years, while praising his government’s progress in providing free electricity to 2.5 crore households since 2014.

Speaking at a rally, Modi pointed out the stark changes since his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took power. “Back in 2014, when we came to office, 18,000 villages didn’t even have electricity poles,” he said. He recalled how long power outages plagued cities and villages under Congress rule, making power restoration a bigger story than the cuts themselves. Modi also called out the corruption in Rajasthan’s previous Congress government, saying the BJP is now fixing those issues and healing the damage.

From Banswara, Modi launched a new era for India’s energy sector, emphasizing how the country is ramping up its power generation with a focus on all states. “Electricity powers development,” he added, linking reliable energy to broader growth.

The projects span infrastructure, jobs, and welfare, with a big chunk benefiting Rajasthan and neighboring states like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. Key highlights include laying the foundation stone for the Rs 42,000 crore Mahi-Banswara nuclear power plant, which promises a major boost to clean energy in Rajasthan. He also greenlit 15 drinking water schemes worth Rs 5,884 crore across 15 districts, ensuring safe and steady water supply for locals.

In a direct win for young people, Modi handed appointment letters to 15,000 new government hires in Rajasthan. This includes roles like 5,778 animal attendants, 4,197 junior assistants, 1,800 junior instructors, 1,464 junior engineers, and 1,200 third-grade teachers, plus compassionate appointments.

This marks Modi’s 16th trip to Rajasthan since the BJP’s central government began in 2014. He also launched three new trains through video conferencing: the Bikaner-Delhi Cantt Vande Bharat Express, the Jodhpur-Delhi Cantt Vande Bharat Express, and the Udaipur City-Chandigarh Express. These high-speed and regular services will improve connectivity for travelers in the region.

Modi chatted with farmers benefiting from the PM-KUSUM scheme, which promotes solar energy for rural areas and supports clean power initiatives. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma joined the event, celebrating the blend of energy upgrades, infrastructure, and job creation.

The visit stands out for southern Rajasthan, honoring the ‘Antyodaya’ philosophy of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya—focusing on uplifting the most marginalized in society through practical steps like these Rajasthan development projects.
