On Friday, Congress party chief Mallikarjun Kharge honored former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his 93rd birth anniversary. In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), Kharge described Singh as a humble leader full of wisdom, who always carried himself with quiet dignity.

Kharge called Singh the “gentle architect” of India’s economic transformation. He pointed out how Singh’s actions spoke louder than words, and his bold economic reforms opened up new opportunities across the country. These changes helped build a thriving middle class and pulled millions of families out of poverty.

The post also highlighted Singh’s strong belief in fairness and inclusivity. Kharge noted that under Singh’s leadership, India’s growth always paired with compassion—through welfare programs that touched the lives of countless people. “His leadership showed us that integrity in public life is not just possible, but powerful,” Kharge wrote.

For many Indians, Singh stands as a lasting symbol of honesty, sharp intellect, and selfless service to the nation. Kharge ended the tribute by saying Singh’s legacy inspires hopes for a stronger, more inclusive India, adding a simple “Our humble homage on his birth anniversary.”

Born on September 26, 1932, Manmohan Singh was a renowned economist who shaped modern India. He served as Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 1982 to 1985. As Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996, he spearheaded major economic reforms that liberalized the economy and gained global praise.

Singh later became India’s 13th Prime Minister, leading from 2004 to 2014. His government launched key initiatives like the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA, now known as MGNREGA), which guarantees jobs for rural workers, and the Right to Information Act (RTI) in 2005, boosting government transparency and public accountability. These steps continue to impact everyday lives and define Singh’s role in India’s development.
