Indian archer Rishabh Yadav can’t wait to step into the spotlight at the inaugural Archery Premier League (APL). As a medal winner at the World Championships and Asian Championships, the young talent from Gurugram sees this as a huge boost for compound archery in India.

The APL kicks off from October 2 to 12 at the Yamuna Sports Complex in New Delhi. It brings together top archers from India and abroad, including five-time Olympian Brady Ellison from the US. Six exciting franchises will battle it out: Prithviraj Yodhas from Delhi, Rajputana Royals from Rajasthan, Kakatiya Knights from Telangana, Mighty Marathas from Maharashtra, Chero Archers from Jharkhand, and Chola Chiefs from Tamil Nadu. They’re all chasing the top prize in this fast-paced league format.

Rishabh will represent the Chola Chiefs in the men’s compound category. “The Archery Premier League marks a big milestone for our sport,” he said. “It gives archers a real platform and brings archery fans closer to the action across India.” He’s especially thrilled about facing off against Ellison. “He’s one of the world’s best, and competing against him will be an incredible experience for me,” Rishabh added.

This rising star has already made waves in Indian archery. In July 2025, he teamed up with Jyothi Surekha Vennam to set a mixed team world record of 1,431 points at the Archery World Cup in Madrid. Rishabh also hit his personal best score of 716 in the individual event there. Just a month later, in August 2025, he grabbed India’s first-ever individual medal at the World Games—a bronze in men’s compound archery. He earned it by beating his own mentor, Abhishek Verma, in the bronze medal match.

Thanks to Abhishek’s guidance, Rishabh has racked up medals at major events like the World Championships and Asian Championships. Now, the APL feels like perfect timing. “We’re super excited for the league starting this October,” Rishabh shared. “It’ll help us prep for the Olympics by letting athletes play more matches on a bigger stage and build that valuable experience. It’s a win for the sport and everyone involved.”

Rishabh pointed to India’s recent successes too, especially in mixed team compound archery. “The past year has been strong for us. We finished second in the mixed team at the World Championships—that’s a great sign. With compound archery now in the Olympic mixed team event, we’re laser-focused on grabbing that medal we’ve been chasing.” Fans of archery in India will love watching this new league help grow the sport’s visibility and inspire the next generation.
