CM Yogi distributes scholarships to nearly 4 lakh students, says discrimination in scheme has ended

In Lucknow on Friday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath handed out scholarships to nearly 400,000 students, marking the end of old discriminatory practices in the program. A whopping Rs 89.97 crore landed directly in the bank accounts of 396,602 students across the state.

This push aims to boost the learning environment and let kids zero in on their studies without money troubles holding them back. Yogi highlighted how things used to be tough—scholarships often got delayed or limited, leaving many students out in the cold.

“Now, we credit scholarships straight to students’ accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer, or DBT,” Yogi said at the event. “Technology and Artificial Intelligence make it all transparent and inclusive. Even minority students get top-notch facilities these days—no one gets left behind.”

He stressed education’s role as the key to lifting society up. Drawing on Babasaheb Ambedkar’s words, Yogi added, “No government can deliver real welfare without strong education. Use the great opportunities the government provides to build your future, rather than relying on handouts forever.”

The state government keeps widening the scholarship net to reach more kids. Yogi tied this to India’s big goals, noting this year as the Centenary Resolution Year. “We’re charging toward our 2047 vision for a developed India and a thriving Uttar Pradesh,” he said.

He also took a firm stand against “divisive forces” that once colonized the nation and now try to derail Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s progress. “They’re sowing division in society,” Yogi warned. “We need to bring people together so every child—especially those from underprivileged backgrounds—gets quality education.”

Looking back, Yogi pointed out the biases in scholarship distribution before 2017. “When our government took over that year, we cleared the backlog for 2016-17 and 2017-18 all at once,” he said.

To cap off the event, the Chief Minister personally gave symbolic scholarship cheques to a few lucky students, underscoring Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to fair education access for all.
