Mammootty’s actor son Dulquer Salmaan moves Kerala HC over seized vehicle

Actor Dulquer Salmaan, son of Malayalam superstar Mammootty, turned to the Kerala High Court on Friday to get back his luxury car. Customs officials seized it earlier this week as part of ‘Operation Numkhoor,’ a crackdown on suspicious vehicle imports.

In his court filing, Salmaan questions the seizure’s validity and urges the court to release the vehicle right away. The car is one of four he owns—two Land Rovers and two Nissans—that caught the attention of authorities.

Salmaan says he handed over all proof of ownership, like payment receipts, showing he bought the cars legally with cash. “Everything’s documented and ready for checks,” he argues in the petition. Despite that, Customs hasn’t given him or his team a proper chance to explain, and they’re ignoring his records. He wants the seizure notice canceled, insisting no rules were broken.

The actor also slams media reports that tie his case to “anti-national activities.” He calls those claims false and harmful to his image, stressing the vehicle was bought fair and square.

Legal experts say this high-profile fight could shape how Indian agencies handle seizures of pricey personal items like luxury vehicles. It shines a light on the extra scrutiny celebrities face over their high-end cars in India.

In Kerala, investigators have pinpointed 36 such vehicles so far, but more than 150 others remain untraced.
