A 16-year-old Indian sharpshooter, Jonathan Gavin Antony, grabbed the headlines on day two of the ISSF Junior World Cup in New Delhi. At the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, he nailed a perfect run in the men’s 10m air pistol final to claim gold. Jonathan topped the qualification round with a score of 586-19x and kept the momentum going, hitting 21 out of 24 shots in the 10s. That gave him a solid 8.5-point lead in the ISSF Junior World Cup Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun New Delhi 2025 event.
Italy’s Luca Arrighi earned silver with 236.3 points after qualifying at 572-21x, while Spain’s Lucas Sanchez Tome took bronze at 215.1 from a 573-11x qualification. The final saw the tournament’s first shoot-off, where Iran’s Hosein Gohari beat Italy’s Gabriele Aldo Villani for sixth place—both tied at 156.8. Gohari then finished fifth with 174.8 (572-12x). Other finishers included Individual Neutral Athlete Vladislav Makarov in fourth at 194.3, Igor Tupitsyn seventh at 134.9, and India’s Chirag Sharma eighth at 115.6 after entering as the second qualifier with 578-15x.
In the junior women’s 10m air pistol final, Individual Neutral Athlete Evelina Shiena stayed cool under pressure and led wire-to-wire for gold with 240.9 points. India’s Rashmika Sahgal fought back strong from her fifth-place qualification of 573-17x but settled for silver at 236.1, just 4.8 points behind. Iran’s Fatemah Shekari, starting eighth with 567-14x, climbed to bronze with 213.8.
Fellow Indian contenders showed promise too—Vanshika Chaudhary, who led qualification at 576-17x, ended fifth after 18 shots with 174.2, and Mohini Singh placed sixth at 153.2 from her 576-12x start.
The skeet competition kicked off with qualification rounds on day two. In the men’s skeet, India’s Harmehar Singh Lally, a silver medalist from the Asian Championships, led the pack with an amazing 74 out of 75 hits. Cyprus’ Andreas Pontikis, Finland’s Lassi Akseli Matias, and Italy’s Marco Coco trailed close with 73 each. India’s Jyotiraditya Singh Sisodiya and Atul Singh, plus Czechia’s Alex Petrasek, sat at 72 hits in the hunt.
For junior women’s skeet, reigning Asian champion Mansi Raghuwanshi from India topped day one qualification with 71 hits out of 75. Uthe SA’s Chloe Chaleunsinh followed with 69, and Italy’s Arianna Nember, a world championship silver medalist, had 68. Individual Neutral Athletes Varvara Zaitseva and Kseniia Shuliak tied with India’s Agrima Kanwar at 67. Olympian Raiza Dhillon and Yashasvi Rathore both hit 65 for seventh.
Day two of skeet qualification continues Saturday morning with 50 more targets, sending the top six in men’s and women’s skeet to the finals that afternoon.
On day three of the ISSF Junior World Cup New Delhi 2025—September 27—fans can catch the 10m air pistol mixed team final at 11 a.m., followed by men’s skeet at 1:30 p.m. and women’s skeet at 3 p.m.
