A heated political row is brewing in India after a top BJP leader slammed Congress figures Rahul Gandhi and Digvijaya Singh for backing what he calls anti-national moves. Madhya Pradesh BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma fired off these charges amid ongoing uproar over violence in Ladakh and a fiery students’ protest in Uttarakhand.
Sharma, a three-time lawmaker from Bhopal’s Huzur area, lashed out at the duo for sharing a video from the Dehradun protest. He claimed they don’t support Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of “Ram Rajya” – a peaceful, ideal India – and instead act like power-hungry leaders. “They’re just like Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who pushed for India’s partition back in the independence days,” Sharma said bluntly.
The controversy kicked off when Digvijaya Singh, a Rajya Sabha MP, reposted the video on his X account (formerly Twitter). In it, a student at the Uttarakhand protest site warns politicians: “If the youth spark a Nepal-style uprising here because the political climate turns sour, no one will save you. Not even helicopters. In Nepal, leaders got airlifted out – but here, you’ll face the fire.”
Singh captioned the clip: “The country’s youth are wide awake. We’ll shut down the shops of those who try to fool us.”
When reporters pressed Sharma on the video, he doubled down. “Rahul Gandhi and Digvijaya Singh are anti-nationals. They back ISI agents and Naxalites,” he accused, linking them to Pakistan’s intelligence agency and India’s Maoist rebels. Sharma went on to say Gandhi craves power at any cost and often points to unrest in Nepal, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan to stir up Indian youth.
“These leaders want to spark riots and chaos to topple the government,” Sharma warned. “They’re set on burning India down, just like Jinnah did for his ambitions.”
The clash highlights deepening divides between BJP and Congress, especially as student protests in Dehradun gain national attention over local issues in Uttarakhand. Tensions remain high, with both sides trading barbs on social media and in public.
