In Agartala, Tripura, Chief Minister Manik Saha handed out appointment letters on Friday to a fresh batch of General Duty Medical Officers (GDMOs) and librarians. The ceremony took place at Pragna Bhavan and drew top officials, including Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Director of Health Services Dr. Tapan Majumder, and NHM Mission Director Saju Wahid.
Speaking to the crowd, Saha highlighted his government’s focus on transparent recruitment and boosting healthcare services statewide. “We’re working hard to hit the World Health Organization’s doctor-to-patient ratio,” he said. “We prioritize fair job opportunities— we’ve already placed more than 20,000 people in government roles.”
Tripura shines in the North-East, ranking second in gross state domestic product (GSDP) and per capita income. Saha stressed the need for ongoing skill updates among doctors and librarians alike. He pointed to big gains in employability: back in 2014, it stood at just 33.95%, but initiatives like Digital India and Skill India have pushed it up to 54.18% today.
At GB Hospital, MBBS seats have grown to 150 and will soon reach 200. Saha shared exciting news on healthcare advances, noting that kidney transplants are now available in Tripura, with plans to expand to all organ transplants. The state is also launching a de-addiction center to tackle substance abuse issues.
On health schemes, Tripura met its 100% target for the PM Jan Arogya Yojana, distributing cards to eligible families. The CM Jan Arogya Yojana has gone further, with over 540,000 cards handed out.
Saha reaffirmed his push to fill empty posts across departments and praised steps to enhance governance and public services. He advised the new appointees to stay true to their roots and honor the role their parents and community played in their success.
This event underscores Tripura’s ongoing drive to bolster health and education services for better lives across the state.
