WWE star Drew McIntyre is stepping into the spotlight of Hollywood, landing a key role in the upcoming Highlander reboot. The Scottish wrestler will play Angus MacLeod, the brother to Henry Cavill’s Immortal hero Connor MacLeod, in this fresh take on the classic story.
The film brings together a powerhouse cast, including Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Max Zhang, and fellow wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista. Directed by Chad Stahelski—known for the John Wick movies—this reboot comes from Amazon, MGM Studios, and United Artists.
Fans of the original 1986 Highlander movie, which starred Christopher Lambert as Connor battling other immortals through the ages, will love this update. That film kicked off sequels and a hit TV series in the 1990s, and now United Artists holds the rights, with plans possibly expanding into a new series down the line.
Production hit a snag earlier this month when Cavill got injured during training, but things are back on track. Filming should start in early 2026.
Behind the scenes, producers Scott Stuber, Nick Nesbitt, Neal H. Moritz, Chad Stahelski through his 87Eleven Entertainment, Josh Davis from Davis Panzer Productions, and Louise Rosner are steering the project.
For McIntyre, a two-time WWE Champion and the 2020 Royal Rumble winner, this role builds on his growing Hollywood buzz. He recently shared the screen with Bautista in the action flick The Killer’s Game, showing he’s no stranger to big-screen thrills.
