In Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, BJP state president Rajiv Bindal fired sharp criticism at the Congress-led government on Saturday, calling out their repeated financial burdens on everyday people. At the same time, he showered praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for delivering real relief and bold reforms across India.
Speaking to reporters, Bindal drew a stark contrast. “While the Narendra Modi government works hard to ease the load on citizens, the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Congress administration has been piling on the pain for three straight years,” he said.
Bindal highlighted how the Congress regime has slapped on as many as 10 different cesses, making electricity bills a nightmare. “The charges are so many that there’s not even enough space on the bill to print them all,” he quipped.
He rattled off a list of hikes under Congress rule that hit wallets hard: a Rs 7.50 increase in VAT on diesel, adding a whopping Rs 10,000 crore burden statewide; cement tax jumping from Rs 7.50 to Rs 16; steep rises in water bills; higher stamp duty; a new Rs 100 monthly fee for rural household water supply; a 46% surge in electricity tariffs; and even a Rs 10 charge on hospital slips.
Switching gears, Bindal celebrated Modi’s national achievements. He pointed to GST reforms that have saved citizens Rs 2 lakh crore in relief. “Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Swadeshi aren’t just catchy phrases—they’re Prime Minister Modi’s guiding mantra,” Bindal said. He linked Modi to India’s freedom icons like Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi, and Deendayal Upadhyaya, noting how they’ve elevated self-reliance from a national idea to a global force. “We’re seeing its full impact today.”
Bindal compared the pre-2014 era under Congress influence to Modi’s India. Back then, the country had just 1,000 startups; now, there are 1.6 lakh, each creating around 40 jobs and fueling employment growth in India.
He spotlighted the mobile phone boom: In the past, 98% came from imports, but today 98% are made in India, including high-end models like the iPhone. Defence exports have skyrocketed too, from Rs 686 crore to Rs 23,622 crore, boosting India’s self-reliant defence sector.
Under Modi, India has grown into a $7.3 trillion economy, securing the fourth spot worldwide. Sectors like destination weddings, Indian tourism, heritage sites, yoga, and astronomy are thriving, Bindal noted. “Prime Minister Modi keeps his promises and turns big visions into reality. The Modi magic is still alive and kicking across the nation.”
