Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has issued lookout notices for Shyamkanu Mahanta, the organizer of the North East India Festival, and Siddhartha Sharma, manager of late singer Zubeen Garg. This move comes as part of the ongoing investigation into Zubeen Garg’s sudden death in Singapore.

In a Facebook Live session, Sarma told the public that both men must show up in Guwahati on October 6 to give statements to the CID, Assam’s crime investigation team. “We want justice for Zubeen,” Sarma said. “From public discussions and police findings so far, Mahanta, Sharma, and a few others have serious questions to answer. I urge them not to test the patience of the people.”

Sarma made it clear: they won’t be allowed to leave India. “They can’t dodge responsibility with social media posts or open letters,” he added. “If they’re innocent, they should step up and face the law.”

To keep Mahanta in check, authorities have frozen his bank accounts and credit cards, limiting his ability to move around.

On the investigation front, the government is waiting for the official autopsy report from Singapore. They’ve already received results from a second post-mortem at Gauhati Medical College in Assam.

Sarma has reached out to the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, asking for a judicial commission led by a sitting judge to oversee the probe and ensure full transparency. He’s also updated Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saying the case could go to the CBI if Assam Police don’t deliver satisfactory results.

While pushing for answers, Sarma appealed to fans and the public to stay calm. “Don’t spread rumors or turn to violence,” he warned. He noted that some people arrested during recent protests had their own pending legal cases and cautioned political parties against using Zubeen Garg’s death for gain.

Sarma shared his personal connection to the singer, whom he called one of Assam’s biggest cultural stars. “I’ve seen many key moments in Zubeen’s life,” he said. “As a fan myself, I promise to get justice for him.”

Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19 in Singapore, where he had gone to perform at the North East India Festival. His death has sparked widespread grief and calls for a thorough probe into what happened.
