Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath cracked down hard on the violence that erupted in Bareilly over the ‘I Love Muhammad’ campaign protests. Speaking at a ‘Viksit UP’ event on Saturday, he warned that his government won’t tolerate any disruptions to law and order.

Adityanath pointed to the chaos in Bareilly the day before, saying rioters now face consequences they won’t forget. “Earlier, festivals brought upheaval, but today we teach troublemakers a lesson in their own language—so even their kids remember,” he told the crowd. He took a jab at a local cleric who “forgot who’s in power,” clearly referencing Tauqeer Raza Khan, the Ittehad-e-Millat Council chief arrested that day for allegedly planning the unrest.

The chief minister stood firm on keeping things moving. “He thought threats would stop the system—no roadblocks, no curfews. But we sent a clear message,” Adityanath said. He also backed the use of bulldozers against criminals who stir up caste tensions and exploit people, calling it justice for those who break the law.

The trouble started Friday in Bareilly’s Kotwali area. After Tauqeer Raza Khan canceled a planned demonstration, a big crowd showed up outside a mosque with ‘I Love Muhammad’ posters. Things quickly turned violent, leading to clashes.

Police moved fast, launching overnight raids that nabbed eight people, including Khan. They also detained more than two dozen others and are tracking over 500 suspects using video and CCTV footage from the scene.

District Magistrate Avinash Singh explained that local rules under Section 163 of the BNSS required written permission for any march, which the group ignored. Deputy Inspector General Ajay Kumar Sahni called the violence a “pre-planned conspiracy” and vowed tough punishment for those involved.

Uttar Pradesh’s Information Department labeled it a plot to spark unrest in western UP and sabotage the upcoming Noida International Trade Show, all to scare off foreign investors. Adityanath’s tough stance aims to keep the peace as the state pushes for growth and stability.
