Jaishankar slams Pakistan at UN

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called for global teamwork to fight terrorism during his speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly on Saturday. Speaking in New York, he drew on India’s decades-long battle against threats from a neighbor he described as the world’s terrorism hotspot.

Jaishankar highlighted the brutal murder of 26 tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, back in April. “India has faced this challenge since independence,” he said. “Major terror attacks trace back to that one country, and UN terror lists are packed with its nationals.” He urged the world to strongly condemn state-sponsored terrorism and take real steps to stop it.

India isn’t standing idle, Jaishankar stressed. The country launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, with precise missile strikes on nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Targets included a Jaish-e-Mohammed base in Bahawalpur and a Lashkar-e-Taiba hub in Muridke. “We exercised our right to protect our people and bring the attackers to justice,” he explained. The goal? Break down terror networks and stop future cross-border assaults.

Terrorism mixes hate, violence, and fear, Jaishankar warned, making it a top global priority. He pushed for stronger international cooperation, like cutting off terror funding, sanctioning key terrorists, and putting constant pressure on the whole terror system. “When countries make terrorism their policy or glorify attackers, we must call it out,” he said. “Ignore state sponsors, and it will come back to haunt you.”

Shifting gears, Jaishankar reflected on how the UN has grown since 1945. Decolonization brought more diverse voices, quadrupling membership and expanding the UN’s role. Globalization added new focuses: sustainable development, climate change action, fair trade, food security, and better health access worldwide.

His words come at a tough time, with ongoing conflicts, climate disasters, and shaky economies testing the world. “Namaskar from the people of Bharat,” Jaishankar opened, nodding to the UN Charter’s call to not just avoid war but build peace, protect rights, and honor every person’s dignity.

Through it all, India stands firm on multilateralism—pushing for peace, growth, and human rights on the world stage.
