Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a homegrown Swadeshi 4G mobile network on Saturday, bringing better digital connectivity to troops in one of India’s remote border areas. The virtual inauguration happened at the Assam Rifles Garrison in Manipur’s Chandel district, with Modi joining from Jharsuguda in Odisha.

A defense spokesperson highlighted how Modi stressed the need for tech self-reliance and digital tools to boost India’s border security forces. This move fits right into the Aatmanirbhar Bharat push for a stronger, independent India.

The project teams up with BSNL, India’s state-run telecom giant, to upgrade communication for soldiers in tough, strategic spots. It promises to make family calls and updates easier, lifting spirits and keeping everyone mission-ready.

Experts say this 4G setup will sharpen operational teamwork too, letting troops in rugged terrain stay linked via secure lines. About 50 Assam Rifles members joined the event, along with top BSNL execs and telecom department officials, showing the real teamwork behind it.

This launch at the Modi Garrison amps up Assam Rifles’ edge in border ops and ties into India’s big digital transformation plans. It helps build key infrastructure in underserved Northeast India spots, especially along the 398 km unfenced border with Myanmar that Chandel shares with four other districts: Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Kamjong, and Ukhrul.

Assam Rifles keeps championing these efforts to improve daily life and work for personnel in far-flung, high-altitude posts, the spokesperson added.
