Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede at a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, where TVK leader and actor Vijay addressed a huge crowd. The incident claimed 39 lives, including children, and left many others injured.
In a heartfelt post on X, Kumaraswamy shared his shock at the Tamil Nadu rally tragedy. “It was a shock to learn that many people were killed and many others were seriously injured in a tragedy that occurred during a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu. This is a very sad incident,” he wrote. He offered condolences to the families of the victims, praying they find strength during this tough time, and wished a quick recovery for those hurt.
Meanwhile, BJP leader K Annamalai slammed the Tamil Nadu government and police for what he called shocking negligence in handling the Karur stampede. In his own X post, Annamalai described the event as deeply distressing, noting around 40 deaths at Vijay’s TVK gathering. He called for immediate medical care for the injured and extended his sympathies to grieving families.
Annamalai pointed fingers at the police, saying they failed to gauge the crowd size, pick a safe venue, or station enough officers to protect attendees at the political rally. He also highlighted reports of a power outage during the event, labeling the government’s oversight as “highly condemnable.”
The BJP leader accused the ruling DMK of favoritism, claiming they pour resources into securing their own events while skimping on opposition ones like this TVK rally. He demanded a full probe into security lapses and the electricity disruption, plus fair compensation for victims’ families and tough action against those responsible. “I strongly urge the DMK government to immediately provide appropriate compensation… and take strict action based on the findings,” Annamalai urged.
