Nepal pulled off a stunning upset in Sharjah, UAE, on September 28, beating West Indies by 19 runs in a T20I match that made cricket history. This marks Nepal’s first-ever victory against a Full Member nation in any format, a huge milestone for the rising cricket team. They had beaten Afghanistan in a T20I back in 2014, but Afghanistan was still an Associate side at the time, so this win over the two-time world champions feels extra special.

It was Nepal’s debut T20I against West Indies and the kickoff to their first bilateral series against a Full Member team. Nepal’s players stepped up big time with a total team effort—six batters hit sixes, six bowlers took wickets, and their fielding stayed sharp from start to finish.

West Indies captain Akeal Hosein won the toss and chose to chase, bringing in four debutants. Nepal stumbled early, losing both openers, but skipper Rohit Paudel and Kushal Malla turned things around. Malla’s explosive hitting, including massive sixes off Fabian Allen and Obed McCoy, fired up the innings. He and Paudel put on a crucial 58-run partnership. Even with Jason Holder grabbing three quick wickets in the 19th over, Nepal fought back to post 148/8.

In the chase, West Indies opened with a boundary from Kyle Mayers, but the momentum slipped away fast. Kushal Bhurtel nailed a direct hit to run out Mayers early. The pitch made batting tough, slowing their progress. Dipendra Singh Airee’s smart fielding caught Keacy Carty out, and Jason Holder managed just 5 runs before falling.

Akeal Hosein looked dangerous for a bit, but Karan KC bowled him out at the right moment. That left Fabian Allen needing 28 runs off the final over—Nepal’s bowlers kept cool and closed out the famous win as West Indies finished on 129.

Though Nepal isn’t in the Asia Cup 2025, this T20I triumph against West Indies stands as a bold statement. They outplayed the powerhouse in batting, bowling, and fielding, etching a key chapter in Nepal’s cricket journey.
