A gunman fired shots from a boat at a popular restaurant in Southport, North Carolina, killing at least three people and wounding others in a shocking attack late Saturday night. The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. at the American Fish Company, located at 150 Yacht Basin Drive in the Southport Yacht Basin area—about 20 miles south of Wilmington.
Police say at least seven people got hit by bullets during the chaos, with three pronounced dead right there at the scene. Emergency crews rushed the remaining victims to nearby hospitals, but officials haven’t shared updates on their conditions yet. The shooter pulled up in a boat, opened fire on the crowd, and then sped off into the night.
Southport City Manager Noah Saldo described the terrifying scene, noting that several people ended up in the hospital. “The numbers could change as our teams keep responding,” he added. Local leaders quickly warned residents to steer clear of the area, stay inside their homes, and call 911 if they spot anything suspicious.
The city’s public alert drove home the message: Injuries are confirmed, but the full count isn’t clear yet. “Avoid the area and remain in your homes. Please report any suspicious activity immediately to 911,” it read.
The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office jumped in to help the Southport Police Department, along with other agencies across the county. In a statement, they asked the community to keep those hurt and the first responders in their thoughts and prayers.
Emergency scanner reports hinted at even more deaths, but authorities haven’t confirmed those details. The North Carolina shooting investigation is ongoing, and police are actively searching for the suspect in this boat-related active shooter case. Stay tuned for updates as more information comes in.
