Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared warm wishes with the nation on the sixth day of Shardiya Navratri, a vibrant Hindu festival dedicated to Goddess Katyayani. He prayed for everyone’s strong health and courage during this time of devotion.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Modi wrote, “I offer my heartfelt prayers at the feet of Devi Maa! I pray to her that she blesses everyone with indomitable courage and excellent health. May her grace infuse self-strength into everyone’s life.”
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath joined in the celebrations with his own message on social media. “The sixth day of the holy Navratri is dedicated to the worship and adoration of Mother Katyayani, the sixth form of Adishakti Maa Durga,” he posted. He added that worshipping her removes fear, illness, and pain while bringing good health. “May the blessings of Mahishasur-slayer Mother Katyayani remain upon the entire universe.”
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also extended her greetings online, honoring the goddess as a symbol of compassion and bravery. “I bow to Mother Katyayani, the sixth form of the universal mother Ambe. Mahishasuramardini, Mother Katyayani, is the light of compassion, courage, and welfare,” she said. Gupta prayed that her grace fills every home with joy, wealth, and love, while guiding Delhi toward progress, service, and strong cultural traditions.
Goddess Katyayani stands out as a powerful form of Durga, known for defeating the demon Mahishasura. She’s the sixth of the Navadurgas, the nine forms of the goddess that devotees honor during Navratri. Ancient texts like the Amarakosha describe her as another name for Adi Parashakti, the supreme energy.
Picture her with three eyes and four arms: In her left hands, she holds a sword and a lotus flower. Her right hands show varada mudra for granting wishes and abhaya mudra for protection. She rides a majestic lion, with a glowing crescent moon on her forehead.
Navratri, meaning “nine nights” in Sanskrit, brings Hindus together across India to celebrate Goddess Durga and her avatars through prayers, dances, and rituals. This year’s Shardiya Navratri highlights themes of strength and renewal, drawing millions into the festivities.
