Team India just clinched the Asia Cup 2025 title with a thrilling five-wicket win over Pakistan in the final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla couldn’t hold back his excitement, telling , “I always had faith in the Indian cricket team. We are Asia Cup Champions!”
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is rewarding the squad and support staff with a whopping Rs 21 crores in prize money. In a cheeky X post, BCCI celebrated: “3 blows. 0 response. Asia Cup Champions. Message delivered. 21 crores prize money for the team and support staff.”
This marks India’s second T20I Asia Cup triumph and their ninth overall, counting the ODI versions. Captain Suryakumar Yadav’s side keeps dominating T20Is, racking up 18 wins, just two losses, and two ties since he took the reins.
India won the toss and chose to bowl first. Pakistan got off to a strong start with an 84-run partnership between Sahidzada Farhan, who smashed 57 off 38 balls (four fours, three sixes), and Fakhar Zaman, who made 46 off 35 (two fours, two sixes). But India’s spinners turned the game around. Kuldeep Yadav grabbed 4 wickets for 30 runs, Varun Chakravarthy took 2 for 30, and Jasprit Bumrah sealed it with 2 for 25. Pakistan crumbled from 113 for 1 to 146 all out in 19.1 overs.
Chasing 147, India stumbled early, slipping to 20 for 3 thanks to Faheem Ashraf’s burst of 3 for 29. But Tilak Varma steadied the ship with a classy unbeaten 69 off 53 balls (three fours, four sixes). He teamed up with Sanju Samson for a crucial 57-run stand—Samson scored 24 off 21 (two fours, one six). Shivam Dube then joined the party, blasting 33 off 22 (two fours, two sixes) to push India closer.
In the end, debutant Rinku Singh sealed the victory with a boundary on the first ball he faced in the Asia Cup. What a way to cap off the nail-biter!
