Afghan police are stepping up their fight against drugs, with recent raids busting heroin labs and arresting suspects across the country. In western Farah province, counter-narcotics teams targeted two drug processing labs in the Bakwa and Parchaman districts, based on solid intelligence tips. They destroyed the sites and burned more than 1,900 kilograms of materials used to make heroin, according to Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior Affairs.

In a series of operations, authorities nabbed 11 people involved in the drug trade in provinces like Baghlan, Laghman, Kapisa, Kunar, Sari Pul, and Parwan. After quick investigations, the suspects now face court proceedings as part of the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking.

The efforts go beyond busts—police are also helping addicts recover. In central Daykundi province, 44 people beat their addictions through treatment and returned home to their families, showing a fuller approach to tackling Afghanistan’s narcotics crisis.

Just a few days earlier, on September 24, teams in southern Uruzgan province hit two more drug labs in the Charchino and Chori districts. They torched over three tonnes of illegal items linked to heroin production and arrested three suspects, who were handed over to judges.

Earlier still, on September 16, police uncovered a lab in Badakhshan’s Darayem district, seizing 170 kilograms of processed opium ready for heroin conversion. Five people at the site got arrested right there.

Afghanistan’s government is ramping up its nationwide war on narcotics, zeroing in on traffickers, poppy farmers, and production rings. The goal? Wipe out poppy cultivation and heroin manufacturing to curb the spread of drugs. These actions highlight a determined push to clean up the streets and support communities hit hard by addiction.
